Regurgitates, spits up, possets, vomits, projectile vomits

This is normal in all infants and is caused by developmental delay in the maturity of the efficiency of the sphincter muscle at the base of the oesophagus. It doesn’t always close completely, and some stomach contents, spills up into the oesophagus, onto the larynx, into the mouth, or is seen as a vomit, If baby is not losing weight this spillage does not matter. It does not matter if the vomit looks like curdled milk (that is the first stage of milk digestion). What does matter, if baby’s behavior is so altered that he is unable to settle for more than about 30 minutes because he is so uncomfortable or in pain. If you had reflux in pregnancy or any time, you will have some idea of what baby is experiencing.

Over the counter medication can help – ask your pharmacist.
